This page contains information about the RightFax service, which allows faculty, staff, and professional students to send and receive faxes electronically.

Centrex numbers can no longer be migrated to RightFax.

NOTE: When logging into RightFax, your User ID now requires your AD domain such as uofi\ or ad\ infront of your NetID/sAMAccountName.

About Technology Services RightFax

Technology Services RightFax is a server-based fax solution for creating, sending, receiving, and managing faxes directly from a customer’s desktop computer. To access, customers log into the RightFax Web Client.

RightFax offers many benefits for customers and management:


NOTE: Due to the storage limitations of the campus server, all RightFax faxes stored in any RightFax folder will be automatically purged after thirty (30) calendar days. To prevent loss of data, all RightFax customers should take steps to save elsewhere any fax information that may be needed for longer than thirty days.

RightFax Account Types

RightFax is available to faculty, staff, and professional students via their departments. Pinnacle Department Managers should submit their service requests using Pinnacle (Pinnacle Department Managers should select their campus and login with their NetID and AD password). While there are no one-time charges to create a new account or modify an existing account, there is a recurring charge of $8.00 per month per account which will be billed to the CFOP provided.

There are two types of RightFax accounts available: individually assigned accounts and group-based accounts.

NOTE: RightFax requires the use of the UOFI Active Directory Domain.

RightFax Account Type Options

We offer 3 different options for receiving new faxes. Each option requires an email address for notifications. Notifications include the receipt of a new fax as well as notifications of status when sending faxes.

Fax Mailbox – Incoming faxes will be placed in a mailbox. The fax will remain in the mailbox for 30 days.

SMTP – Incoming faxes are sent as an attachment to a specified email address. An email address for faxes to be sent to is required.

Note: the email address faxes should be sent to can be different from the email address notifications are sent to.

Network Drive - Incoming faxes are directed a specific network drive.

Please submit your network location in the following UNC format: \\[fully qualified server name]\path\to\folder

Do not submit as UNC for Distributed File System (DFS). Example: \\bluebot\file\faxes.

If a new folder is required for each new day, add \~1 to the end of the network path. The path can contain a maximum of 70 characters.

Note: Your department's IT pro must give the user "rfaxadmin" read/write access to the network drive destination folder.


Delegation

Either type of account can be configured to support delegation to allow another RightFax account holder to receive or send faxes on their behalf.

To contain monthly charges, departments may opt to designate just one or two staff to handle all the faxing for their department. The selected staff would have individually-assigned RightFax accounts and the department would have one group-based RightFax account. Through delegation, the individuals could log into RightFax with their own personal credentials yet continue to send and receive faxes on behalf of the department.

Technology Services does not configure account delegation. Instead, delegation is configured by the RightFax account holder.

Distributing & Storing Faxes

Either type of account can also be configured for SMTP forwarding upon request. SMTP forwarding allows for incoming faxes to be forwarded as an attachment to a predefined University email address, eliminating the need to log into the RightFax web client to retrieve faxes. For group-based Technology Services RightFax accounts, the departmental IT Pro can configure the Active Directory user account (i.e. resource account) to be mail-enabled.

Configuring SMTP forwarding or making changes to the email address used for SMTP forwarding can only be performed by Technology Services staff and is facilitated via a Pinnacle Service Request.

RightFax is to be used for the distribution of faxes and not document storage. Although customers can create folders within the RightFax application for better organization, Technology Services RightFax should not be used to store incoming or outgoing faxes due to storage limitations of the campus server. All incoming and outgoing faxes stored in any RightFax folder will be automatically purged after thirty (30) calendar days.

To prevent loss of data, all RightFax customers should take steps to save fax information that may be needed longer than thirty days elsewhere.

Getting Started

Please contact your Pinnacle Department Manager to order new services or to modify existing services. Each academic and administrative unit on campus assigns a Technology Services Pinnacle Department Manager that is authorized to place Technology Services Service Requests for that unit.

RightFax User Guide

The RightFax User Guide provides information about the Technology Services RightFax web interface as well as creating, sending, and viewing faxes.

Print to Fax Print Driver

The RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver is optional software that can be installed on a Windows workstation and allows the RightFax user to fax directly from Windows applications such as Windows, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote.

The RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver is free and available via U of I Webstore.
Installation of the Print to Fax Print Driver requires local administrator privileges on the Windows workstation.
Customers should contact their departmental IT Pro for assistance.


NOTE: Given the additional workstation support requirements of the RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver, it is strongly recommended that RightFax customers utilize the RightFax Web Client instead. Before installing the Print to Fax Print Driver, please see the Prerequisites and Special Consideration sections below and consult with your departmental IT Pro support.

Prerequisites

The following are prerequisites for the Windows installation of the RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver 10.6:

It is not necessary to preinstall these prerequisites. The RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver will install or reinstall any prerequisites when utilizing the Installation Script. 

Installing the Print to Fax Print Driver

The RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver is deployed as a compressed .zip file.

NOTE: Files must be uncompressed and previous versions must be uninstalled before installation (See uninstall steps below).

NOTE: The .cmd file must be run in same directory as other unzipped files as the script will look for installation files in other unzipped directories.

Steps to install:

To install RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver, open [local folder]\RightFax10634Client\and right-click Install10_634.cmd.


Uninstalling RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver

If the previous RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver was originally installed, it is necessary to uninstall the previous version (10.5 or 10.6).

If you already installed the previous version of RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver (version 10.5 or 10.6), you must uninstall this older version prior to installing the new version (10.6.3.4).  Open [local folder]\RightFax10634Client\and right-click uninstallRightFax.cmd.  Select Run as Administrator to run.
