Campus Mailing Lists, What are the different mail list types?

There are multiple mail list types.  The setting:  (Admin) > Edit List Config >  Sending/receiving setup - "Who can send messages" setting describes +25 different list types.  You can find a description of the types in the Campus Mailing List User Guide.

The privileged list owners have permission to change the list type.  See the above article for details.
