Guests, Creation, Sponsoring Short-Term Network Guest Accounts
For IT Pros This page contains information for campus IT pros and other campus hosts about how to sponsor short-term network guest accounts that can be used with the campus VPN.
If you (or your department) are hosting campus visitors, your visitors may need Internet access. The Internet needs of most campus visitors will be met by self-registering for network access on IllinoisNet_Guest. At times, visitors will need access to more restricted resources on campus. For those cases, departmental staff can create short-term network guest accounts for these visitors that allow a connection to IllinoisNet and the campus VPN.
If your guests need longer-term access (for more than a month), you may wish to create guest NetIDs for them instead. Please see Guests, Visitors' Guide
Any student, faculty, or staff member at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign can create ten guest accounts for up to 3 days for their visitors to use IllinoisNet_Guest. Authorized departmental representatives can create up to 1000 departmental sponsored guest accounts which have access to the IllinoisNet SSID, the campus VPN and varying durations of up to one month. This page explains the guest account creation process and additional information that some guests may need. Guests who expect to connect through WiFi for simple purposes will need only their guest account name and password; however, guests who need to connect through the VPN will need to be provided with VPN client software and profiles.
