Instructions for performing a manual uninstallation of Sophos Anti-Virus.

On March 1, 2020 the licenses for Sophos and Malwarebytes and the associated infrastructure at Technology Services will be retired.

After March 1st, Sophos and Malwarebytes will no longer protect machines.

Technology Services Privacy and Security recommends transitioning all UIUC owned endpoints to the Endpoint Security CrowdStrike platform.

Uninstalling Sophos Anti-Virus for macOS

  1. Navigate to /Library/Sophos Anti-Virus in the Finder. This can be achieved by clicking on the Finder icon on the Dock, going to the Go menu at the top of the screen and selecting “Go to Folder…”, then pasting in “/Library/Sophos Anti-Virus“ and clicking “Go”.
  2. Run the “Remove Sophos Anti-Virus.app”, following the steps offered in the uninstaller and entering credentials for a computer administrator account when prompted.

Uninstalling Sophos Anti-Virus for Windows 10

  1. From the search icon, enter "Control Panel".
  2. Select "Programs and Features".
  3. Right-click on "Sophos Anti-Virus" and select "Uninstall".
  4. Select "Yes" if/when prompted.
  5. Repeat for each item labeled "Sophos".
  6. Reboot your computer when finished.
