Kaltura, Creating a Channel Playlist

A playlist is best used if you are curating your content in your channel with a specific plan for the order media should be viewed in.
On the other hand, you might want to allow your users to decide which media to view when.  (Note that there are other ways to organize a channel with a lot of content, such as tags.)
To create a playlist from media in a channel, choose "Edit" from the actions menu to the right of the banner for the channel.  Detailed instructions can be found on Kaltura's Website: https://knowledge.kaltura.com/help/creating-and-configuring-playlists.
After you have created a playlist, your channel will not look the same for you.  There will be a "Playlists" tab, and an "All Media" tab behind it.
  • The All Media tab is where you will find now the button to "To add to Channel."
  • You can only add media to a playlist after they have been added to the channel.
To create a playlist in Compass, you need to Edit the gallery.
If you embed a playlist, the individual media will have the same permissions as they would if embedded them on their own.  If a video is in a private channel (limited to specific logged-in users) or in a restricted channel (requires login from U of I persons), the video will not show up in the playlist to users who have not logged in.  Users who view a playlist through Canvas Compass are already logged in.  Media that is published to a public gallery or "unlisted" does not require login to view when embedded.
