Virtual Hosting, Upgrading VMware Tools causes VM to go into invalid state
Workarounds/Fix for VMs in invalid state due to VMware Tools upgrade.
Virtual Hosting is aware of an issue when upgrading VMware Tools will cause a VM to go into an invalid state. The VM will upgrade Tools, reboot, and will not come back. If you log into the vCenter console, you may notice the VM is now in an invalid state. This does not appear to happen on every VM.
If you plan on upgrading VMware Tools on your VMs, please reach out to the Virtual Hosting team via tickets or an email first. There is a workaround for this and we can apply the workaround before your upgrade to ensure your VMs do not go into an invalid state.
If you do run VMware Tools upgrade and notice an invalid state, please reach out to the Virtual Hosting team to have it fixed.
For now the workaround is to reconfigure any VM with a stale CDROM ISO path for a physical device (raw, atapi, scsi) and set "useAutoDetect" to true for the virtual device.
