iSchool Conference Room, 5116
Equipment
This room contains a built-in computer. Using the built-in computer is the optimal way to use this space, especially for Zoom calls as only the built-in computer connects to the built-microphone and cameras.
Room 5116 is equipped with the following: | Room 5116 does not have: |

The control panel's home screen in this room has 4 choices you can choose from:
-
Wireless Projection: This enables you to use a wireless connection (via Solstice or AirPlay) to connect a laptop to the television screens. This is the least optimal option for most uses as more issues occur when connecting wirelessly.
-
Built-in Computer: This enables you to project the built-in computer to the television screens. This is the optimal way to use this room and the only way to connect a remote attendee to the ClearOne microphone mounted on the ceiling. If you have a guest joining online, please use this setting. You can also join the same meeting on your laptop (muting your laptop) for ease and comfort, but be sure the built-in computer is handling sound.
-
Laptop: This enables you to project a laptop to the televisions via an HDMI cable.
-
Off: Turns off the LED screens (the control panel will remain on.)
Not sure what you want or plan to do a combination of these things? No worries! The first three options (Wireless Projection, Built-In Computer, and Laptop) all take you to the same screen where you can modify which source displays on which television. You can also click the gear icon in the lower right to advance to the main screen.
Source Matrix
The source matrix controls which source (built-in computer, laptop/tablet/phone via wireless connection, or laptop via HDMI connection) is displayed on which television.
- TV: television on the south wall.
- TV 2: television on the east wall.
- Audio: speaker system.
Using the touch screen, match the desired source to the desired location. You can mix and match.
Television On/Off
You can control which televisions are on and off using the on/off matrix. Clicking the name of the device in the source matrix also controls whether these devices are on or off.
Microphone
You can also control whether the ClearOne microphone mounted to the ceiling is on or off by selecting on or mute.
When the microphones are off, the two lights will be red. When they are turned on, the lights will turn blue.
Speakers
You can control the volume and mute the speakers.
Room off/Return to Home Screen
This button turns off the televisions, microphone, and speakers and returns the panel to the home screen. Please press this button when exiting the room.
Using the HDMI for Laptops
You can connect your own laptop to the televisions and use it in this room.
- Select Laptop on the control panel.
- Find the HDMI cable on the cabinet in the room.
- Take the loose end and plug it into the laptop leaving the other end connected to the system.
- The laptop should now be connected to the television.
NB: If your laptop does not have an HDMI port, you will need to use a dongle (adapter). You can borrow one from the Help Desk if you don't have your own.
-
- When connected with a dongle, sometimes the screen will fracture into horizontal bars or the display will split and show part of another display. This is because the dongle is not strong enough to handle the high resolution and you will need to use a different one.
Using Wireless Content Sharing
If you want to connect wirelessly to a Windows laptop, you will need to download and install the Solstice application on your device. If you are borrowing a laptop from the Help Desk, this should already be installed. Mac users have the option to use AirPlay, which does not require a separate download and installation. Either option is display-only and does not connect you to the built-in speakers, camera, or mic.
Windows Laptop (Only)
- Select Wireless Projection from the control panel.
- Check that you are connected to the IllinoisNet wireless network.
- Follow the instructions on the main display by opening your web browser and navigating to the URL being displayed. If you need to download the Solstice application, there will be a link to do so. If you already have it installed, click the 'Already have the app?'
- You will be given a 4-digit code on the main display to input into the Solstice application on your laptop. Afterwards, click Connect.
- From there, you will be connected to the room and can choose to share your desktop, an application window, or a media file.
***After going through these steps once, you can just open the Solstice application after Step 2 and select the 4018 room from the recent list.
Connecting using AirPlay (Mac)
- Select Wireless Projection from the control panel.
- Check that you are connected to the IllinoisNet wireless network.
- Go to System Settings > Displays and select room 5116 from the available displays in the Add Display drop-down.
- You will be prompted to enter the AirPlay password.
- There should be a 4-digit code displayed on the main display.
- Enter this as the password. This password changes regularly so you do not need to save or remember it.
- From there, you will be connected to the room and can choose to share your desktop, an application window, or a media file.
Adjusting Screen Scale, Resolution, and Layout
You may find it necessary to adjust the scaling, resolution, or layout of what is being displayed on the projector(s) for better visibility. Your steps are different between Windows and Mac devices.
Mac:
To adjust the scaling or resolution, go to System Settings > Displays, click the image that says "Built-in Display," and you will have options for text scaling. Select the one that works best for you. If you wish to adjust your resolution instead, click the image up top that say "PT-RZ570" and choose from the list of resolutions available.
You may also want to change the layout of how the Mac and projector screens are displaying content. To do so, while still in "Display Settings" on your device, and with the "Built-in Display" image selected, find the "Use as" drop down right above your resolution choices, and select the proper setting for your purposes from the drop down menu. Note that if your screen is currently mirroring, you will need to first select "Stop Mirroring" from the menu to see the below choices:
Main display: The projector(s) acts as a separate screen(s) using the Mac as the main display.
Extended display *: The projector(s) acts as a separate screen(s) using the projector(s) as the main display.
Mirror for PT-RZ570: Show exactly what is on the device screen on the projector screen(s).
* If you are extending your display and notice that your screens are not oriented correctly (you can’t move your mouse from one screen to the next), you can scroll to the top of the Display Settings page to rearrange the order of the screens by clicking the "Arrange..." button and dragging the images of the displays that come up to the correct position with your mouse.
Windows:
To adjust the scaling or resolution, go to Start > Settings > System > Display and scroll down to "Scale and layout". Then adjust the scaling and resolution until the appearance works for you.
You may also want to change the layout of how the PC and projector screens are displaying content. To do so, go back to "Display" on your device and scroll down to "Multiple Displays" (just below the "Scale and layout" section). Then use the drop-down menu to select the proper setting for your purposes. Don’t forget to click "Apply" when you are done.
Duplicate these displays: Show exactly what is on the device screen on the projector screen(s).
Extend these displays *: The projector(s) acts as a separate screen(s) with different content.
Show only on 1: Only the PC displays; the projector display is muted.
Show only on 2: Only the projector displays; the laptop display is muted.
* If you are extending your display and notice that your screens are not oriented correctly (you can’t move your mouse from one screen to the next), you can scroll to the top of the Display page to rearrange the order of the screens by clicking and dragging the numbered boxes to the correct position with your mouse.
