Citation Managers

A brief summary of two citation managers recommended by the iSchool, including Zotero and Mendeley

Zotero and Mendeley allow you to save, organize, share, and cite articles while browsing online. Free accounts are available for both services, with more features offered to paid accounts. For more information about citation managers, please visit the UIUC Main Library comparing citation managers page.

Zotero

Zotero is an open source citation manger created by the Center for History and New Media at George Mason University. Most features are available for free. Plug-ins are available for web browsers, Microsoft Word and other programs. It also includes over 7,000 citation styles you can use to create in-text citations and bibliographies.

Mendeley

Mendeley, produced by Elsevier, offers many of the same features as Zotero. It can also be used to store, organize, and cite sources. Mendeley also has the option to build a profile to connect with other researchers.
