Please Note

This is a technical guidance only, not an authorization to work remotely.  If you are not sure whether you are allowed to work from home, please seek clarification from your supervisor.

To be prepared for work from home/teach from home situations:



  • While you are still on campus, update your work laptop.

    • Connect it to the wired network on campus and reboot to run updates ASAP. 

    • After rebooting, please make sure that the applications you use on a daily basis for your workflow are installed and working properly.

  • Bring your laptop and charger home each day.

  • Know how to check email from your at-home device especially if you usually use a desktop client in the office. 

  • Set up Voicemail. There are two systems in Chicago:

  • Prepare to join web conferences. Does your work laptop or at-home device have at minimum a microphone? (Most laptops do!) 
Install common web conferencing clients on your mobile devices and your at-home device (work laptop or home machine).
