Pathology Research Programs

List of programs used by Pathology Researchers. All can be installed without admin access unless noted otherwise.

Anaconda

Download link: https://repo.anaconda.com/archive/Anaconda3-2020.11-Windows-x86_64.exe

Run the file and select Just Me (recommended) when prompted.

Destination folder: C:\Users\(your netID)\Anaconda3

After install, Anaconda should run normally.

You can install, update, run all the apps within Anaconda

Spyder

Run Anaconda and click the install button under Spyder.

Anaconda will install Spyder and give an option to launch it from within the interface.

Click the gear icon in the top right above the Spyder app to choose to update it or install a difference version.

You can also click the windows start button and launch Spyder from the Windows Program List.

R Studio

Run Anaconda and click the install button under R Studio. (Same process as Spyder. See above screenshots)

Anaconda will install R Studio and give an option to launch it from within the interface.

Click the gear icon in the top right above the R Studio app to choose to update it or install a difference version.

You can also click the windows start button and launch R Studio from the Windows Program List.


Python

Full development version will require admin credentials. Once installed to the users folder directory, users should have full access to the program.

Smaller version of Python can be found here and does not need admin credentials:

Extract the zip file

Run the python.exe file

R

Download link: https://mirror.las.iastate.edu/CRAN/bin/windows/base/R-4.0.3-win.exe

Install path should be your user directory folder.

R can be launched after the install completes.


Endnote

Admin credentials are needed for install.

Once installed a tech can give full access to the Endnote folder to modify the program as needed.

Please contact pathhelp@uic.edu if you need Endnote installed.
