IllinoisNet Manual Chromebook Configuration

The SecureW2 JoinNow extension is not reliably supported at this time, and ChromeOS devices may require manual configuration to connect to IllinoisNet.

Log in to the device with an admninistrator account, and click the wifi icon in the status bar (location differs between ChromeOS versions). Select the IllinoisNet network, and input the following details:

  • SSID: IllinoisNet
  • Security: EAP
  • EAP method: PEAP
  • EAP Phase 2 authentication: MSCHAPv2
  • Server CA certificate: Default (change to "Do not check" if connection fails)
  • Identity: your NetID
  • Password: the same as for other University websites and services
  • Anonymous Identity: leave blank
  • Domain: wireless.illinois.edu

Using IllinoisNet_Guest

The campus guest network can also be used, though access expires at 4am each day.

  1. Join the IllinoisNet_Guest network, which does not require authentication.
  2. Once connected, click the "Connect to Wi-Fi network" notification that appears or attempt to load a website such as https://illinois.edu/
  3. You'll be redirected to the Captive Portal screen. Click Student/Faculty/Staff Wi-Fi Access to continue.
  4. Enter your NetID and password, accept the terms of use, and click the Log In button.
  5. You'll be taken to another page with the heading "WELCOME TO TECHNOLOGY SERVICES WI-FI SETUP PAGE". Click the Continue for Temporary Internet Access button to register the device for the rest of the day.

Still having issues?

At this time, Technology Services recommends manual configuration of IllinoisNet rather than temporary access to IllinoisNet_Guest.
