Safer Illinois: Quarantine and Isolation

How does Safer Illinois let me know if I’m in isolation and quarantine? How does Safer Illinois know when I am released from isolation or quarantine?

When an individual tests positive for COVID-19, they will be required to isolate. Individuals must remain in isolation for a minimum of 10 days from the date they either tested positive or started to experience symptoms. They will be released from isolation by CUPHD.  For more information about isolation, see the university’s Quarantine and Isolation page.

For more information about student and staff resources after testing positive, see the university’s Testing Positive for COVID-19 resource page.

After the isolation period, Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) will remove your isolation status. This change can take up to 24 hours after your case is closed.

Once you are released, an “Action Required” event will appear in your Health History that says you’ve been released, and your status will turn to Yellow/Allowed.

Contact Tracing Quarantine

Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) determines when an individual has come into close contact/exposure with a positive case. They will place the close contact into quarantine. For more information about quarantine, see the university’s Quarantine and Isolation page.

Once Champaign-Urbana Public Health District (CUPHD) has released you from quarantine, you will need to resume testing on campus to maintain building access.  You will see an “Action Required” event in your Health History that says you were released from quarantine.

Exposure Notification Quarantine

If you participate in exposure notification, you may receive an exposure notification if you were are near someone who later tested positive.  Individuals who receive an exposure notification should self-quarantine.

If you have an exposure notification, you will see:screenshot of exposure notifications next steps in the safer illinois app

To get out of Exposure Notification Quarantine, you must test on campus after the date in your next steps and have a negative result. Once that negative result is in Safer Illinois dated after the date in your next steps, your status will return to Yellow/Allowed.
