Vetstar - Ordering Imaging Studies using the Radiology Information System (RIS) - VMSC ONLY

The following instructions explain how to request a RIS order.
  1. From the Vetstar home screen type riso in the command line and hit. (You may also select the RIS Orders button within the Charge Screen.)
  2. Hit enter again to display all RIS orders for the current patient (you may choose the other display options)

  4. Select the New This Patient button
  5. Select on the Loc'n:(location) button in the upper left and enter VMSC  
  6. Select the desired modality; open a window (F4) to see all modalities. (Radiography South Clinic or Dental South Clinic)
    • On the right side of the screen double click to select South Clinic Rad or South Clinic Dental Rad

  7. The priority field will default to inpatient
  8. Enter the doctor ordering the study, you may open a window and search by name if needed.
  9. Order comments will open automatically, if this is a VMSC order only it is not required to fill out the order comments. Click the save button to continue.
  10. When ready, click the Acknowledge button on the right side of the screen 
  11. Enter the supervising faculty doctor code.
  12. Exit to the home screen and type the quick command irad and hit enter
  13. Click on the patient’s study and click on the complete button 
  14. Click to select the appropriate charge and adjust the quantity if needed.
  15. Click on the submit button 
  16. After clicking submit you will return to the irad screen, re-select your patient
  17. Click on the Create Rpt button  .
  18. Select the appropriate report template. 
    • Click on the template and click the save button
  19. Enter your operator code in the create operator field and click verify
  20. Type your report. Once complete, you may save the report if you wish to come back and edit or you may click to verify which will lock the report and changes cannot be made.
