Web Browsers - Clearing the Java Cache

This document explains how to clear the Java plug-in cache. This forces the browser to load the latest versions of web pages and programs, which is useful for troubleshooting problems with web applications such as Oracle.

Mac OS X (10.5 and Higher)

  1. Open Finder, then go to Applications > Utilities
  2. Double-click the Java Preferences icon.
  3. Select the Network tab, then click on the Delete Files... button.
  4. Verify both boxes are checked, then click OK.
  5. Close the Java Control Panel.

Windows

Open the Java Control Panel:

  • Windows XP and Vista

    1. Open the Start menu and click on Control Panel.
    2. Double-click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.
  • Windows 7
    1. Open the Start menu and click on Control Panel.
    2. In the Control Panel Search type Java Control Panel.
    3. Click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.
  • Windows 8

    1. Move your mouse to one of the two right-hand corners of your screen to reveal the Charms Menu and click on the Search icon.
    2. In the search box that appears on the right-hand side of the screen, type Java Control Panel.
    3. Click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.
  • Windows 10

    1. Open the Windows 10 Control Panel by clicking the windows key and searching Control Panel.
    2. In the search box that appears on the right-hand side of the screen, type Java.
    3. Click on the Java icon to open the Java Control Panel.

Clear the Cache Using the Java Control Panel:

  1. In the Java Control Panel, go to the General tab.
  2. Under the "Temporary Internet Files" section, select the Settings button.
  3. The "Temporary Files Settings" dialog box should appear. Click the Delete Files... button.
  4. Verify all options in the "Delete Temporary Files" window are checked, then click OK.
  5. Click OK in the "Temporary Files Settings" dialog.
