Installing and Testing Java on Your Computer

Instructions on how to install Java, test that it is installed, and make sure it works with Banner without logging into Banner.

Installing Java

Java 8 is the recommended version for AITS enterprise applications.  It is recommended you check with your local system administrator before you install Java.  To install Java yourself, you must have local administrator rights on your computer.  For more information on Java versions, check the "See Also" section below.

NOTE: The Google Chrome browser has stopped supporting the Java PlugIn as of September 2015.  Safari, Internet Explorer and Firefox are currently the only browsers supporting Java.

Testing Java

Go to the Java Verification Page to verify Java is working correctly in your browser.    It is not required to have local administrator privileges to run Java, but other configuration may be necessary for Java to run correctly.  If the verification page does not indicate that Java is running, check that Java is correctly activated and enabled in your browser:

For more help, contact your system administrator or visit the Java Troubleshooting Page.

If the verification page indicates you are not using the current version of Java, it is recommended that you update to the latest version.

Testing Java with Banner

Java can be tested with Banner without the need for a Banner user account.
This is useful for system administrators who want to test Java but don't have a Banner account of their own.

Click on this test form and make sure the form below appears:
