VPN, CISCO AnyConnect, Error Message, not able to establish a connection to the specified secure gateway

When attempting to connect to the VPN, the following error message displays: "AnyConnect was not able to establish a connection to the specified secure gateway."

If you have used any previous VPN clients (e.g. Aventail SSL, CITES VPN) they will need to be uninstalled completely. There may be an uninstall option under Add/Remove Programs in Windows. If not, the connection will need to be deleted from the Network Connections window (any shortcuts will probably need to be manually deleted).

On Apple computers, there may be a network connection to be deleted under System Preferences > Network. If not, dragging the program from Applications to Trash should remove the program. After deleting the previous VPN clients, reboot, and try connecting again.
