This document contains answers to some frequently asked questions about RightFax, a service that allows users to create, send, receive, and manage faxes directly from their desktop computers.
No, RightFax is not supported for the transmission or receipt of
sensitive data. For more information regarding sensitive data, see
Incoming and outgoing faxes in RightFax accounts will be automatically purged after thirty days. To prevent loss of data, all RightFax users should take steps to save faxes that may be needed longer than thirty days to other locations such as departmental shared drives or UOFI Box.

In order to be a delegate of a RightFax account, you must have your own individually-assigned RightFax account. To log into your individually-assigned RightFax account, use your NetID and Active Directory password. To log as a delegate of your department’s group account, login using your individual credentials (NetID and AD password). At the RightFax Login screen, enter the group account name in the “Delegate As” field. Click on the Login button.
Group-based accounts use Active Directory user accounts, commonly referred to as a resource accounts, that are created by departmental IT Pros. For information regarding the passwords of these accounts, please contact your departmental IT Pro.
If you need to switch from your individually assigned RightFax
account to a group-based RightFax account, you must completely
log out of RightFax and login again using the group name and
Group phonebook entries can only be made from existing phonebook IDs. If you want to add a new fax or e-mail address to a group phonebook entry, you must first make it an individual phonebook entry.
The RightFax Printer Client is only available for Windows workstations and requires several other applications to work (Microsoft .Net Framework and Microsoft Visual runtime). Given the limited functionality and additional departmental IT Pro support required, RightFax users should assess if the Print to Fax Print Driver would truly be beneficial. Technology Services encourages all RightFax users to contact their departmental IT pro before installing the Print to Fax Print Driver.
No. The RightFax Print to Fax Print Driver is only available for Windows workstations. As well, it only supports print-to-fax of Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, OneNote, etc).
Since RightFax is server-based and accessed by the RightFax Web Client, it is not dependent upon a physical service location. However, RightFax accounts will only be provisioned with telephone numbers that are local to the Urbana-Champaign calling area. Additionally, RightFax accounts are only available to the Urbana-Champaign campus community. For faxing service options on the other campuses, please contact either ACCC (Chicago) or ITS (Springfield).
