Webstore, Office 2010 installed in a non-default location

When activating Office 2010, I received this error: "Office 2010 was not detected and has not been activated. It may be installed to a non-default location."

If Office 2010 has been installed to any location other than C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office or C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Office, you will need to manually activate as follows:

  1. Use a hardwired on-campus connection or connect to the campus VPN.
  2. Locate the installation folder for Office.  Normally it is C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14 but it will be located somewhere else in your case.  Note this location for step 4.
  3. Open an elevated command prompt by going to Start - Programs - Accessories, right-click on Command Prompt, and select "Run as administrator" (or Open if that option does not exist).
  4. Type each command below exactly as shown, substituting the actual folder path from step 2, and press Enter after each:
    1. cscript "[install folder]\ospp.vbs" /sethst:kms.webstore.illinois.edu
      For example: cscript "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\Office14\ospp.vbs" /sethst:kms.webstore.illinois.edu.
    2. cscript "[install folder]\office14\ospp.vbs" /act
