Illinois Compass 2g, Student turning in a video file for an assignment

Students can create or upload video files using Kaltura for assignments in Illinois Compass 2g

Students can turn in video files for an assignment within Illinois Compass 2g using Kaltura. Students should follow these steps to turn in a newly-created or previously saved video file for an assignment.

First, the student clicks on the assignment in the course.

Then, the student clicks on "Write Submission" instead of uploading a file.

In the text editor, the student clicks on the "Mashups" menu and chooses “Kaltura Media.”

The student has the option to record a video using the computer’s camera and submit it.

  1. To record a new video, the student must click the “Add New” button and select “CaptureSpace” from the dropdown menu.
  2. A popup menu may appear; click "Launch Application."  You may also need to click “Allow” to continue.
  3. If you choose WebCam, it will launch and immediately countdown to begin recording; you can click to pause and resume recording.
  4.  When finished recording, click Done.  This takes you to a screen to edit your video.
  5.   Enter a Name for the video, which is required, and a Description and Tags.
  6.  “Save” will make a local copy.  "Upload" will send the video to Compass and to  My Media.
  7. From the “My Media” screen, select the file to submit then press the “Select “ button.
  8. When presented with the popup screen asking “Would you like to submit this media as an assignment?” click “Yes, please.”
  9. Click the “Submit” button on the assignment window. The file has now been submitted to the assignment.
The student also has the option to upload a previously create video file into the assignment.
  1.  To upload a file for an assignment, click the “Add New” button and select “Media Upload” from the dropdown menu.
  2.  Click the “Choose a file to upload” button to browse the computer.
  3. Select the file to upload then enter its required Name and Description and optional Tags.
  4.  Click “Save.”
  5. Click the “Back to Browse and Embed” link.
  6. From the “My Media” screen, select the file to submit then press the “Select “ button.
  7. When presented with the popup screen asking “Would you like to submit this media as an assignment?” click “Yes, please.”
  8. Click the “Submit” button on the assignment window. The file has now been submitted to the assignment.
