Some customers are getting the error "No business layer sent back from server" when trying to run a report using Web Intelligence Rich Client.
If you receive the error "No business layer sent back from server" when trying to run a report using Web Intelligence Rich Client, please follow the steps listed below.
Sometimes Webi will show you are "Connected" (seen in the bottom right of Web Intelligence Rich Client). We have noticed that even though you are connected to Webi, you may actually be timed out and the notification will not show "Disconnected." We are asking customers to disconnect (quit) Webi completely (Webi runs in the back ground) and open/login again.
Disconnecting from the Server
If you want to truly disconnect and close Web Intelligence, you can quit the program from the running programs list on your computer's task bar.
1. Click on the button on the lower-right corner of your task bar to show all running programs.
2. Right-click on the Web Intelligence icon and select Quit.
Your connection to the Web Intelligence server has now been terminated. Open and login to Webi again. You should be able to successfully run your report.
Another option to close Web Intelligence Rich Client rather than keep it running in the background is to uncheck the "Keep process active after closing last window" under Options. This is a one time change and Web Intelligence Rich Client automatically disconnect from the server each time Webi Rich Client is closed.
1. Click on the gear in the top right when Webi Rich Client is opened and choose Options.
2. Uncheck "Keep Process Active after closing last window."
3. Click OK.
