Illinois Compass 2g, Canvas, Roster Uploads, Course Available

Overview of when student rosters are loaded into Compass courses.

Registrar-affiliated class rosters are uploaded into Illinois Compass 2g and Canvas course spaces twice daily beginning at 5:00 am CST and 5:00 pm CST.

Rosters are first loaded the Thursday before the first day of the semester.

Instructors, Teaching Assistants, Course Builders/Designers

A newly-created course space may take up to 12 hours before its roster is uploaded, depending on when the course was created between the scheduled, twice daily roster loads.

Students

Rosters are loaded into Compass the Thursday before the first day of classes, but you may not see an Illinois Compass 2g or Canvas course space for a few reasons:
  • Your instructor may have hidden the course space from students while he or she adds course content.
  • The course space may not have been created yet. Rosters are loaded within 12 hours of a Compass space being created, so check back periodically to see if the space has been added.
  • The course may not be taught on Illinois Compass 2g and is instead on Moodle (learn.illinois.edu) or Canvas (canvas.illinois.edu). Check your instructor's syllabus to see if an alternate website is listed.
If you are a student who has just registered for a course, it may take up to 3 days for the course to appear in your Illinois Compass 2g or Canvas course list; contact your instructor if you need more immediate access to the course space. If it has been longer than 3 days since you registered for a course, and you still do not see it listed, contact the Technology Services Help Desk at 217-244-7000 or consult@illinois.edu.
