Kaltura is a media hosting and sharing service that can be access as mediaspace.illinois.edu. You and your students can share videos publicly on the Web, to restrict viewing to only U of I people, or only to members of a U of I class. Think of it as YouTube with a FERPA fence.
You can access your media in Kaltura from inside Compass—and even upload directly—from inside Compass in four ways. This page will get you started.
1. The Kaltura Mashup: Anywhere you see the text Editor, such as an Item, or a discussion board posting, you can use the "MashUp" button

Choose "Kaltura Media" from the menu.
This takes you to your Kaltura account, "My Media". No additional login required.
Or if you click on the "Add New" Button you can upload something from your local computer, or launch CaptureSpace to record something then and there. Note:
Note that students can also use the Mashup where they see the text editor, such as in Assignments and discussion board postings.
Note: If you cannot see Kaltura in the Mashup menu, you may need to turn it on for your course space. In the lower-left, go to Customization > Tool availability and check the first box ("available") for Kaltura Mashup.
2. Add Kaltura Media to Content Area: Choosing "Kaltura Media" from the Tools Menu in a Content Area will take you to "My Media,"

Again, this takes you to My Media. Selecting a video adds a link to your Compass space.
3. My Media module on your Compass home page: With this module, you can get to your Kaltura media without drilling down into a specific Compass space.
To add a module, you click on the Add "Module Button" in the upper-right,

and then find the Kaltura media module.
This will allow you to view use statistics (Actions > Analytics), and also add co-editors to your media.
4. Media Gallery: You can also add a collection of videos all in one place. You can add one of these to your Compass space from the Tools Menu, under "More Tools".
