Dell Data Protection, How to install on MacOS

Steps to install Dell Data Protection (DDP) on MacOS.

Introduction

Dell Data Protection (DDP) for MacOS integrates with MacOS' native drive encryption "FileVault" so that the FileVault recovery key is uploaded to a single central location. This is valuable in case the IT Pros in a unit change and don't leave notes where to find system recovery keys for managed MacOS machines.

The following steps cover how to encrypt a MacOS system with FileVault by using DDP.

You will need

  • an unencrypted MacOS system.
  • about 1 hour for every 20GB of data to encrypt.
  • a copy of Dell Data Protection (DDP) from https://uofi.box.com/s/r8pfsn7i5hi00bjg67q5u9mhvigmn8kn.
  • a Mac plugged into AC power (not running on battery power).
  • a Mac connected to the Internet.
  • a user account in Active Directory (AD).
  • administrative access to the MacOS system.

Warning

The initial encryption process will affect system performance.
