WiFi calling information
If you are having trouble with a cellular signal, in particular inside a building, many phones provide a solution called “WiFi Calling” which will allow you to use IllinoisNet to place a phone call. WiFi Calling operates much the same way that Skype or FaceTime do, minus the video. Due to variations in carrier implementations of WiFi calling, you may need to include the area code even when dialing local numbers.
Because WiFi calling uses the internet, it is difficult for first responders to locate you in the case of an emergency. As such, using WiFi to dial 911 during an emergency is not recommended, unless no other solution is available.
Find Your Carrier
WiFi calling availability is dependent upon your device and your carrier. Technology Services provides the wireless internet connectivity, but your device still needs to be able to have WiFi Calling enabled. Please check with your carrier and phone manufacturer to determine if your device is WiFi calling capable. Links to some carriers are provided below.
If you need additional assistance with the WiFi Calling feature, please visit your carrier’s local retail store or contact their technical support channels.
