Adding and Editing news stories for ATLAS Drupal sites

News stories are posted to the front page of the website.  They are a great way to highlight the activity in your unit and older articles will automatically go into the archive as you add new ones.  Here is a screenshot of a news story with each of the pieces noted.  Find complete steps to create News Stories below.

Adding a New Featured Image

You must be logged in as an Editor role or higher to add News Stories
  1. Under the Manage menu at the top of your page, click the Content option
  2. Click the blue + Add Content button just below the content heading
  3. Click News Stories on the list of available Content Types.
  4. Complete the following fields
    1. Title  - The main title of the article.  This will show at the top of the page and whenever the story is shown in a list.
    2. Secondary Title – This is not required, but will add some details to the top of the article
    3. Body – The main area of the articl
    4. URL – The page that you want users to go to when they click the button on the image.
    5. Link text – The text that will appear on the button (Learn More in the sample image)
    6. Featured Image Box Color – Choose the background color for the text box (Orange in the sample image)
    7. Featured Image Box Location – Which side of the image the box will appear on (Right in the sample image)
    8. Featured Image Sort Priority – What order the image will appear in the rotation.  Higher numbers mean to appears earlier in the rotation To make sure an image is always first, choose 10.
    9. Click the Save button
    10. It may take up to 30 seconds for the blurred background image to appear.

Editing an Existing Featured Image

You must be logged in as an Editor role or higher to edit Featured Images
  1. Under the Manage menu at the top of your page, click the Content option
  2. Set the Content Type filter to be Featured Image and click the Filter button.  This will limit the options to only Featured Images
  3. Select the Featured Image you want to edit and click the Edit button in the far right column
  4. Make changes to any other fields you need to update
  5. To replace the image, you must first remove the current one by clicking the Remove button and then using the Choose File button to select a new image.  You will need to give a new Alternative Text entry for the new image.
  6. To remove the entry entirely, scroll to the bottom of the form and click the Delete button
  7. If you replace an image, it may take up to 30 seconds for the new blurred background image to appear.
