2FA - Token

Available tokens for 2FA (2-Factor Authentication)

The University will have 2 token options available for 2FA in June 2017.

Yubikey

How to Purchase - Available via University of Illinois WebStore:

  1. Select Shop Unit Purchases
  2. Select “your campus” Products
  3. Use the Product Search to search for "Yubikey"
  4. Enter a quantity, then select Add to Cart
  5. At the login page, enter your NetID and Password
  6. Review and agree to terms of use
  7. Check out.
    Note: Your
    business unit is responsible for the cost.

Distribution - Tokens can be sent through campus mail or picked up at a specific campus location. They can be shipped to a mailing address and the Business Unit will be responsible for postage.

How to Claim/Register - Visit https://verify.uillinois.edu/Claim:

  1. Log in with your Netid and Password.
  2. Type in the serial number of your device (This is the 8 digit number on the back of your token). 
  3. Select Register This Token.  
  4. You are required to test the token in order for it to remain on your account.

Using the Yubikey - When a 2-Factor screen pops up:

  1. Select Token as the device
  2. Select Passcode, then put the cursor in box to the left of the passcode. 
  3. Hit the gold button to automatically generate the passcode and log in.

User Experience - The first time the Yubikey is used, allow a few seconds to register your device on your computer. This is only required the first time it is used.  Yubikey will automatically generate a passcode and logs you into the system.

Generate Passcode - You can generate a passcode as needed by touching the gold button on the token

Usage - The Yubikey is required to be in the USB port of your desktop/laptop machine. It is configured for an individual, and cannot be shared/used by a group.

Lost/Forgotten Device - In emergency circumstances, you can call your campus service desk, give information to verify your identity, and a code will be emailed to you.

  4. Manually enter the password, then selelct Login.

User Experience - You are required to manually enter the passcode on the 2FA authentication screen.

Generate Passcode - You will need to wait 10 seconds before generating a new passcode (the counter is on left of passcode)

Usage - Stand-alone device (not USB). It can be kept in a drawer or other secure location, but will need to be accessible to authenticate. The token is configured for an individual and cannot be shared/used by a group. Departments can send an email to 2FASupport if employee leaves and the device needs to be reconfigured.
