Travel Expense Management (TEM) - Error: This Service is Only Available on a University Network or Through an Authorized VPN

A campus VPN connection (Virtual Private Networking) is required to access the Travel and Expense Management (TEM) application from an off-campus network.

Logging into TEM from off-campus without a campus VPN connection will show the following error and prevent access: 

Sorry, this service is only available on a University network or through an authorized VPN

Solution

You must connect to your campus VPN connection before logging into TEM. 

If the error continues to persist with the VPN connected, make sure your browser is closed before connecting to the VPN:

  1. Disconnect from the VPN
  2. Completely exit all web browsers
  3. Reconnect to the VPN
  4. Open your web browser
  5. Log into TEM

VPN Instructions

Each campus has unique instructions for connecting to VPN.  Here are the VPN instructions for your campus:

Ensure you are tunneling all traffic through the VPN

For the UIC VPN:

  1. Close all of your web browser windows.
  2. Disconnect from the UIC VPN.
  3. Login to https://www.uic.edu/apps/openvpn/settings
  4. Under “Route all traffic through VPN Tunnel?” select “Yes”
  5. Click (Update Settings) 
  6. Re-connect to UIC’s VPN.
  7. Log into TEM
For the UIS VPN:
  1. Close all of your web browser windows
  2. Disconnect from the UIS VPN
  3. Go to https://secureconnect.uis.edu
  4. Choose TUNNEL_ALL from the Group menu

  6. Log into TEM
