There are a number of ways visitors to the University can connect to the Network. The table below compares the connection methods used by visitors and multi-user devices for VPN and WiFi access.

How are the accounts provisioned Campus Visitors go to their web browser and a captive portal screen is presented that they can use to make an account that lasts for 24 hours. Anyone with an Urbana NetID can make accounts in the Portal: https://clearpasspub.techservices.illinois.edu/guest/that last for 72 hours, and can be scheduled in advance. Departmental designates make accounts in the Portal: https://clearpasspub.techservices.illinois.edu/guest/ Departments designate people to make sponsored accounts using an AD group that they maintain Departments maintain an AD group with specially named device accounts. Anyone with an Urbana NetID or a departmental designate can make accounts in the Portal: https://clearpasspub.techservices.illinois.edu/guest/ Departments designate people to make sponsored accounts using an AD group that they maintain.  Accounts are provisioned by the home institution.
Notes Recommended default for all campus visitors.Sponsoring department takes responsibility for the Visitor’s use of the network. These accounts should only be used when there is a business case for access behind the campus firewall.   Departments can put devices into an air-group which allows access (needs more details and a link)  This network can also be used to test that a local account works correctly with eduroam before traveling to other locations where eduroam will be used to get network access.

* The total number of accounts available to a department or individual with an Urbana NetID is shared between Network Guest, IllinoisNet_Guest Device, and IllinoisNet_Guest accounts
