Networking, Guest Access Options Compared
This page contains access and feature comparison for short-term network guest accounts.
There are a number of ways visitors to the University can connect to the Network. The table below compares the connection methods used by visitors and multi-user devices for VPN and WiFi access.

|How are the accounts provisioned||Campus Visitors go to their web browser and a captive portal screen is presented that they can use to make an account that lasts until 4AM the next day. Anyone with an Urbana NetID can make accounts in the Portal: http://go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetguest that last for 72 hours, and can be scheduled in advance.||Departmental designates make accounts in the Portal: http://go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetguest Departments designate people to make sponsored accounts using an AD group that they maintain||Departments maintain an AD group with specially named device accounts.||Anyone with an Urbana NetID or a departmental designate can make accounts in the Portal: http://go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetguest Departments designate people to make sponsored accounts using an AD group that they maintain.||Accounts are provisioned by the home institution.|
|Notes||Recommended default for all campus visitors.||Sponsoring department takes responsibility for the Visitor’s use of the network.
