Networking, Guest Access Options Compared
This page contains access and feature comparison for short-term network guest accounts.
There are a number of ways visitors to the University can connect to the Network. The table below compares the connection methods used by visitors and multi-user devices for VPN and WiFi access.

|How are the accounts provisioned||Campus Visitors go to their web browser and a captive portal screen is presented that they can use to make an account that lasts for 24 hours. Anyone with an Urbana NetID can make accounts in the Portal: http://go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetguest that last for 72 hours, and can be scheduled in advance.||Departmental designates make accounts in the Portal: http://go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetguest Departments designate people to make sponsored accounts using an AD group that they maintain||Departments maintain an AD group with specially named device accounts.||Anyone with an Urbana NetID or a departmental designate can make accounts in the Portal: http://go.illinois.edu/illinoisnetguest Departments designate people to make sponsored accounts using an AD group that they maintain.||Accounts are provisioned by the home institution.|
|Notes||Recommended default for all campus visitors.||Sponsoring department takes responsibility for the Visitor’s use of the network.
