Add a Network Printer

Please use the following instructions to install a network printer.

Windows

  1. Go to the printer you want to add and record the printer name.  In our example it is \\vetprint\Lac222
  2. Go back to your computer and Select Start
  3. Type the name of the printer (i.e. \\vetprint\Lac222) and press Enter  

Macintosh

  1. Select System Preferences from the Apple menu
  2. Select Printers & Scanners
  3. Select the + button to add a printer
  4. Press the Control key while clicking the Default icon in the toolbar, then choose Customize Toolbar from the menu that appears
  5. Drag the Advanced (gear) to the toolbar
  6. Select Done
  7. Select the Advanced icon that was added to the toolbar
  8. In the Type section choose LPD/LPR Host or Printer
  9. Leave the Device section as Another Device
  10. After the lpd://vetprint.vetmed.illinois.edu/PrinterName (the name should be on a tag on the printer)
  11. You may rename the printer something memorable in the Name section
  12. You may add a location
  13. Select Generic PCL Printer
  14. Select Add
