Identity Management, NetID character rules

What are the requirements for a NetID?

NetIDs follow the following rules:

Minimum of 3 characters
Maximum of 8 characters
Valid first character: letter (a-z)
Valid subsequent characters: letters (a-z), number (0-9), dash (-)**

**The dash is no longer assigned; some NetIDs have dashes from a legacy ruleset.

We do not reassign old NetIDs and it needs to be unique across the entire university system (cannot be used on another campus).
