cPanel, Installing the AWS command line

web.illinois.edu is hosted on Amazon Web Services. Advanced users may find it helpful to have access to the AWS commnd line interface.

First use an SSH client to access your account (cPanel, SSH, SCP, and SFTP access ), then enter the following commands:

virtualenv --no-site-packages ~/awscli
. ~/awscli/bin/activate
pip install awscli
chmod u+x ~/awscli/bin/aws

You can now run ~/awscli/bin/aws to access AWS resources.

On subsequent logins to your account, you will have to run this command again to add the ~/awscli/bin directory to your command path:

. ~/awscli/bin/activate

Alternatively, you can append that command to your ~/.bashrc file to achieve the same functionality after each login.
