Digital Signage, Exchange Calendars & O365

For those who display Exchange calendars on their FWi-based digital signs, adjustments will be required when resource accounts are migrated from on-premise Exchange to O365.

For those who display Exchange calendars on their FWi-based digital signs, adjustments will be required when resource accounts are migrated from on-premise Exchange to O365. When calendar resource accounts are migrated, they will cease to work until updated URL and account information is entered into FWi Content Manager.

The following changes must be made for each Exchange Calendar (LiveData) content item and the updated content must be redeployed to the sign(s):
  1. Change the Data Format to O365 Exchange.
    1. In the Properties of your Content Item...
    2. Click on the box with the ellipsis (…) next to the Data Format Pull-Down box.
    3. Choose: Office 365 (EWS)
  2. Change the URL from UofI Webmail to O365.
    1. Open the "Dynamic URL" window by clicking on the folder icon next to the URL field.
    2. In the "Dynamic URL" window...
    3. In the "Path" field, enter: https://outlook.office365.com/EWS/Exchange.asmx.
  3. Change the Method.
    1. Also in the "Dynamic URL" window...
    2. Click on the box with the ellipsis (…) next to the Method Pull-Down box
    3. Change the Request type to Office 365 (EWS)
  4. Update the UserName and Domain
    1. Still in the "Dynamic URL" window...
    2. Add @ad.uillinois.edu to your username.
Note: This reflects the Principal Name of the Active Directory resource account. @ad.uillinois.edu is the default suffix, but in some cases, it may have been changed to @illinois.edu. Please use the suffix appropriate to your service account.
    3. Delete the domain name - (you no longer need to put UOFI)
  5. Test, Finish, Deploy
    1. Still in the "Dynamic URL" window...
    2. Click on the Test button located at the bottom of the window.
      1. in a moment there should be calendar data returned and displayed in the window above.
      2. if there is no data, check to make sure you followed all steps exactly as described and verify that your account was migrated to O365
      3. if there was valid data, you are good to go!
    3. Click OK to exit the "Dynamic URL" window.
    4. Click OK to exit Content Properties.
    5. When you are ready, right-click your sign and deploy your updated content.
If you have any questions or need assistance, contact the Digital Signage Service Team at digitalsignage@illinois.edu.

Note: This will only work for resource accounts that have been migrated to O365. If you wish to do this in advance, you could make a copy of the content items and make the changes but the time saved will be minimal. My advice is to "let it break" in the migration and apply this fix as needed.
