ACF: Remote Desktop Service - Connecting with OSX
This document explains how to connect to the ACF Remote Desktop service for Apple OSX users.
ACF Remote Desktop Connections with OSX
Note: We now recommend using the UIUC AnyWare service for remote computing resources.
To connect with OSX, you must:
1. Have a remote desktop client installed, we recommend Microsoft Remote Desktop
a. If you have not installed the Microsoft Remote Desktop client for OSX, you will need to go to the iTunes Store to download and install it. For more information on this client, please see Microsoft's documentation here.
2. Click here to see a list of available machines
within the ACF Remote Desktop service. Find an available machine and click its IP address to download a .rdp file.
a. Open the .rdp file (which should open with Microsoft Remote Desktop). It will then try to connect to the remote machine and as you for your username and password.
b. Enter your campus username and password. Your username needs to be in the format "uofi\netID"
. Ex: If your netid is 'jdoe2', your username will be: uofi\jdoe2.
c. Note: This .rdp file is pre-configured to use the campus RDP Gateway. A campus VPN connection is not required.
If you are on the campus network,
you do not need to use the the RDP Gateway or VPN connection. However, if you are experiencing network/connection issues you should try using the VPN.
By default, this Remote Desktop client is not set to print to your local printer (at your home, dorm, etc.).
To change this, edit your ACF Remote Desktop connection. Under the "Devices and Audio" tab, check the box next to "Redirect: Printers".
