This document explains how to connect to the ACF Remote Desktop service for Microsoft Windows users (not UIUC Anyware).
If you are on the campus network, you do not need to use the VPN connection. However, if you are experiencing network/connection issues you should try using the VPN.
1. Ensure you have a RDP client: From your start menu, search for and select the program "Remote Desktop Connection". This is pre-installed with most Windows versions.
a. If you do not have this installed, you can download Microsoft Remote Desktop here.
2. Click here to see a list of remote offerings and machines. Find an available machine you'd like to connect to, and click on its IP address to download a .rdp file.
a. This .rdp file can then be opened with your Remote Desktop client to connect to the remote machine. Before connecting it will ask for your username and password. Your username needs to be in the format "uofi\netID". Ex: If your netid is 'jdoe2', your username will be: uofi\jdoe2.
b. Note: This .rdp file is pre-configured to use the campus RDP Gateway. A campus VPN connection is not required.
You can change the resolution of the Remote Desktop window. These settings can be found by clicking "Show options" and then viewing the "Display" tab.
From this window you can select which resolution you wish to use.
By default, this Remote Desktop program is set to print to the local printer (at your home, dorm, etc.).
To verify this, click "Show Options" and select the 'Local Resources' tab.
Note that under the 'Local Resources' tab, 'Printers' is checked.
