E-Lock Access through Groups Portal (AD Groups)
How to use the Groups tool in the my.cs portal to manage group access for CS courses and RSO's.
Many TA/CA’s for Computer Science courses and RSO’s utilize specific rooms in the Siebel Center throughout the year. In order to give our users more autonomy and accommodate for the access changes that happen throughout the semester, we have enabled the Active Directory groups to also control access to the appointed rooms. These groups are normally only editable by authorized administrative or I.T. staff, but this edit access can be delegated directly to Professors, head TA’s or RSO board members. This is done by adding the relevant security groups to the my.cs.illinois.edu portal in the "Groups tool".
For those who have been delegated this access, please see below for simple instructions on how to self-manage the membership of these security groups. We do encourage groups to self-manage their security group membership. This allows groups to keep their membership lists up to date, but please note that access for RSO's will be cleared out at the end of each semester. This means that students who needs access to the various RSO rooms for the subsequent semester will need to be re-added.
If necessary, notify Engineering IT E-Lock (email@example.com) of any room changes. (e.g. TA’s meeting in different office, RSO room has changed, etc.)
Browse to the Group tools at: https://my.cs.illinois.edu/groups/index.asp
You should only see groups to which you have edit access.
Select your group from the list of available groups
Select which security group you would like to manage.
Which security groups are available will depend on which security groups have been set up in Active Directory and delegated to you by Engineering IT.
You can now add members to this security group by entering their NetID (do not use the full email address), and clicking the "Add" button.
You can remove individual members by clicking the "-" (dash/hyphen) button next to their NetID/Name.
Or remove multiple NetIDs at once by selecting the checkbox next to NetIDs you want to remove, then click the "Remove selected" button.
For any questions or issues related to the room access through AD groups, please e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org.
