Zoom, Zoom Meeting Best Practices

Useful configuration tips for better meetings.

Zoom meetings are easy to schedule using the web interface. Here are a few settings you should know that will help make your meeting a success:

Video: Set both Host and Participant to OFF, by default.

Audio: Set to Both (Telephone and Computer Audio), by default.

Password: Consider using a password if the meeting has sensitive content.

Enable join before host – should be UNCHECKED. When checked, the first person to join the meeting becomes the host and has control of the meeting.

Enable waiting room – can be used to control entry to a meeting. People can be brought in as desired.

Alternative Hosts – enter the email address of additional ‘co-hosts’. Always a good idea for large meetings. A co-host can watch for raised hands, respond to chats, and manage breakout rooms.

During a meeting, the ‘Manage participants’ control at the bottom of the screen can be used to remove someone from the meeting or lock the meeting to prevent others from joining (even if they have a Meeting ID and password).
