Digital Signage, Getting Started with Korbyt
Accessing Korbyt Anywhere
The Korbyt Anywhere platform utilizes a web interface for content and sign management functions. To log in:
- Open Microsoft Edge or Google Chrome (other browsers are not supported and may not render content accurately)
- Navigate to https://www.korbyt.com/login
- Note: Do not enter your credentials on Korbyt's initial login screen
- Click on the "Azure AD" button located below the blue "Log In" button
- The browser will redirect to the University's authentication system
- Enter your standard campus credentials (University email and password)
After a successful login, the Dashboard for the campus Korbyt instance should load at https://universityofillinois.korbyt.com/home
If you are redirected to the main Korbyt homepage (gokorbyt.com), you may not have platform access. Please contact your unit's digital signage administrator to request access.
- For further assistance, send a support request at the service page or by emailing digitalsignage@illinois.edu.
Site Overview
Navigation in Korbyt Anywhere is handled via the Mega Menu triple bar icon in the upper left of the page:
Most content management functions are located in these sections:
Media Manager - Repository of images, videos, documents and other media imported into Korbyt. Signage content must be added to the Media Manager or hosted on a web server for it to appear on a sign.
Layouts - Create sign layouts containing media and other elements, including external data sources. These layouts can then be included in a playlist or used within another layout.
Playlists - Playlists are used to schedule a sequence of media or layouts for display on signage players or within another layout. With Clever Playlists, dynamic rules can be used to show content based on folder location, tags, and other conditions.
Players - View the signage players provisioned for your unit, preview the content as it would appear on the player, and see a schedule of assigned playlists. Administrators can configure and provision new player devices.
Player Groups - Player groups can be used to manage or schedule content on multiple devices simultaneously.
Content Organization and Access
Content Folders
Items in the Media Manager, Layouts, and Playlists areas are organized using a folder structure. The permissions assigned to each folder determine who can view and modify the items they contain. Folders can be used in content rules to automatically publish new content to signs.
The folder tree can be viewed by clicking on the file folder icon near the upper right of the content list on each page.
Every unit has a designated folder which can only be viewed by unit members. The basic folder structure is Root > Unit Content Folders > Name of Unit. Sub-folders can be created within a unit folder which inherit the same access permissions.
Note: Items placed outside of a unit folder are accessible to everyone in the University's Korbyt instance. As some interfaces within Korbyt default to a flat or search-based view of content, this can lead to inadvertent modification or use of content.
We ask that everyone follow these best practices:
- Place content for your unit inside the unit's designated folder subtree
- Use the folder view when creating and importing content to ensure they are placed in the intended location
- Avoid importing new content directly from an external source into editor windows as this can cause items to be placed in Root or other public folders.
- Move misplaced items by dragging them from the item list to the folder tree on the left
This DSS meeting video includes a walk-through and discussion on folders use and other best practices at time 7:50.
Player Groups
Signage Players use groups rather than folders for organization, and each player can be a member of multiple groups.
In addition to scheduling content, groups can be used to assign access to players. Each unit has an automatically populated group granting player access which should not be modified.
To have additional groups created, please contact your unit's digital signage administrator or submit a request to Digital Signage Services.
