Digital Signage, Player Installation and Configuration Resources
The Korbyt digital signage platform also supports a few different device types for delivering digital signage to campus. In this article we have included installation steps for the various devices currently used on campus. Supported hardware can be found at: https://kb.korbyt.com/article/supported-hardware/
Windows
There are two recommended methods for installing or upgrading your digital signs:
MECM (Campus Endpoint Management)
For new installations of Korbyt Windows Appliance (KWA), a shared application has been created in MECM:
Software Library > Overview > Application Management > Applications > MANAGED APPLICATIONS > Korbyt
This will install the player software in the "standard" configuration. After installation, the software will not start immediately, it will automatically run on Windows login.
If you are looking to remove Content Player and install KWA as part of a migration process, there is an example task sequence called DEMO Days-Fourwinds-to-Korbyt-Upgrade found under Software Library > Overview > Operating Systems > Task Sequences > .DEMO DAYS that can be copied to your departmental collections and used for this scenario.
File-based Installation
If you do not utilize endpoint management tools, we can provide the base installer and installation instructions.
Windows Install Notes
In the standard configuration, a background Player Support Service is installed which enables cloud management features in Korbyt Anywhere and a player-hosted web admin interface. See Digital Signage, Korbyt Windows Player Desktop for additional information on the web interface.
During install, a registry key is set to automatically start the background process for all users on the machine, which then launches the player runtime that displays the content. If the player runtime crashes or is stopped, the background process will restart it.
Note that while all content and most management functions will work while the player software is run on a normal Windows user account, a few minor features such as the cloud-based "Sleep/Blackout" configuration do require it to run as an administrator. The taskbar may need to be set to auto-hide as well.
When the player runs, settings and log files are created/modified within the C:\ProgramData\korbyt folder. If the first run is on a different Windows user than will be normally used to run the player, it may subsequently fail to start due to file permission issues. This can be resolved by granting the normal user account Full Control for that folder, subfolders and files.
