Client Services Support, Office 365, Changes from Office 2016
This document is to assist those with Unviersity-owned computers who are supported by Client Services, with the transition from Office 2016 to Office 365.The overall user experience in Office 365 is similar to Office 2016, and the transition should be mostly seamless with a couple of minor differences.
Changes from Office 2016 to Office 365
The first time you sign into your PC after upgrading to Office 365, you will be prompted to login to Microsoft Teams. Microsoft intends for Teams to eventually replace Skype for Business. Use of Microsoft Teams is currently at the discretion of each individual department.
If you do not want Teams to automatically launch at startup, follow these steps:
1) Sign into Teams using the same email address you use to sign into Skype for Business:
2) Click on your initials in the top-right corner of the window to open the menu:
3) Click on Settings
4) On the General tab, un-check the box to Auto-start the application:
5) Close the menu and exit Teams. You will no longer be prompted to sign in each time upon logging in to Windows.
Skype for Business
Skype for Business may not open by default after being upgraded to Office 365. If Skype doesn’t automatically sign you in, you may need to manually open it once, sign in, and tell it to run automatically with Windows:
1) Use the Windows search feature to find Skype for Business
Note: a search for
“Skype” will yield several results.
Please be sure to open Skype for Business; not just Skype or the Skype
for Business Recording Manager!
2) Open Skype for Business and sign in
3) Click the gear icon in the top-right corner of the Skype window to open the Options menu:
4) Under the General tab, check the box to Automatically start the app with Windows:
5) Click Okay to apply the settings.
we have seen Skype not auto-start correctly after the upgrade despite having
this box checked. If you experience
this, follow the above steps, uncheck the box to auto-start, apply the
settings, exit and restart Skype, and then re-check the box. This has resolved the issue in our testing.
In Office 365, Outlook defaults to showing what Microsoft calls your “Focused Inbox.” In this mode, Outlook will display what its algorithms think are your most important messages on one “Focused” tab, while separating the less important ones into a second tab labeled “Other.” You may quickly switch between the two views by clicking the desired tab:
If you would prefer to have all your email appear in one place as it did in Office 2016, you can disable the Focused Inbox very easily by following these steps:
1) Select the View menu from the top of the Outlook window
2) Click on the shaded square around Show

Web Intelligence (Webi)
There is a known issue with the Send Report As Email button in Webi after upgrading to Office365. For the time being, reports will need to be saved and emailed separately.
