Illinois App, Troubleshooting

Try these tips to troubleshoot problems with the Illinois app.

Downloading the App

The Illinois app is available only through Apple's App Store (iOS) and Google Play (Android) in the United States.

If you are in another country, you may be able to download the Illinois app by changing your account or store region.

Changing Your Apple Account Region (iOS)

You may be able to change the region of your Apple account so that you can access the US App Store. See Change Your Apple Account Country or Region from Apple Support. Note that some irreversible changes will need to be made during this process.

Changing Your Google Play Country (Android)

You may be able to to change your country setting so that you can access the US version of Google Play. See How to Change Your Google Play Country from Google. Note the warnings and limitations.


Logging Inshibboleth error screen

Seeing an Error Screen

If you see a Shibboleth error screen with an "IDP node: unknown" error message, try these solutions:

  • Clear the cache and delete the data from the app.
  • Make sure your browser does not have cookies blocked.
  • Change your default browser.
  • Uninstall pop-up blocker apps.

Clearing Cache and Data

Clearing the Illinois app's cache and deleting the app data will not affect any other data you have on your phone. It will affect only the data associated with the Illinois app.

On an iPhone, uninstall the app and reinstall it.

On an Android phone:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap the Apps section.
  3. Tap the Illinois app.
  4. Tap Storage.
  5. Tap the Clear cache button at the bottom.
  6. Tap the Clear data button at the bottom.

Unblocking Cookies

On an iPhone:

  1. Tap Settings.
  2. Tap Apps.
  3. Tap your browser.
  4. Tap Advanced.
  5. Turn off the Block All Cookies setting.

On an Android phone:

  1. Tap your browser.
  2. At the top right, tap the three vertical dots and then tap Settings.
  3. Tap Privacy and security.
  4. Make sure that third-party cookies are allowed.

Changing Your Default Browser

On an iPhone (iOS 18.2 or later):

  1. Make sure you have another browser installed.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap Default Apps.
  4. Tap Browser App.
  5. Pick another browser as the default.

On an iPhone (iOS 14–17):

  1. Make sure you have another browser installed.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Scroll to your browser.
  4. Tap your browser.
  5. Tap Default Browser App.
  6. Pick another browser as the default.

On an Android phone:

  1. Make sure you have another browser installed.
  2. Tap Settings.
  3. Tap the Apps section.
  4. Tap your current browser.
  5. Tap Browser app.
  6. Tap a circle to select a different browser.

Looping after Two-Factor Authentication

If you get looped back to the login screen after verifying your identity with the Duo two-factor authentication prompt, make sure you have the latest version of the app. If you have the most current version, change your default browser. You should have to change the default browser only once so that you can log in to the Illinois app. You then can switch back to your previous browser.


Accessing Wallet

To access the Wallet feature, you must:

  • Sign in to the app with your NetID. (Profile > Sign In/Sign Out)
  • Set your privacy level to 4 or higher. (Settings > My App Privacy Settings > Manage and Understand Your Privacy)

Accessing Illini ID

The Illini ID feature requires an active i-card. The app cannot retrieve your details if your i-card has expired. If your i-card has expired, you may see your UIN only or a message that your card is deactivated. Contact the Urbana ID Center to renew your i-card.
