Zoom, Requesting an app integration

This document details the process that departments must go through to successfully have a 3rd party application integrated with Zoom Workplace.

Zoom Workplace allows both first party (created by Zoom) and third party (created by a vendor) apps to be integrated for use within the desktop client. The information below details the everything that the Zoom support team needs in order to properly evaluate an integration request. Completing the process is not a guarantee of approval.

Please be aware that integration requests can take weeks or even months to be completed. We are not able to expedite approvals due to the involvement of multiple other teams in the process.

How to request an integration

If you would like to request an application integration with Zoom Workplace, please have your local IT support submit a ticket to the Technology Services IT Service Desk at help.uillinois.edu, by emailing consult@illinois.edu. This request should provide as much information about the requested app as possible, including vendor documentation, requested permission scopes, and any assessments already completed.

NOTE: Requests for apps already approved and integrated with other University of Illinois Urbana software platforms are strongly preferred.

Requested application integrations must successfully pass the following metrics to be approved on the Illinois Zoom tenant. All requested assessments will be submitted by the department using the provided forms.

  • Need: Requested applications must fulfill a need that isn't already performed by another approved application, integration, or feature, OR... the requested application, integration or feature must provide the same or better functionality more efficiently or at a cheaper cost.

  • Support: All requested integrations and features must have clearly defined support responsibilities. The department and it's local IT team assume responsibility for supporting the integrated application in consultation with the vendor's support. The Zoom team will only provide support for Zoom Workplace and its features. If the department or their local IT team is not willing or able to provide support for the integrated application, the request may be denied.

  • Vendor Risk Assessment: The Illinois Zoom platform is primarily used to host virtual classes. As such, requested applications must pass a Governance, Risk and Compliance (GRC) Vendor Risk Assessment. Units requesting 3rd party integrations will be required to complete this step on their own and assume all risk for its use.

  • Privacy Impact Assessment: In addition to the Vendor Risk Assessment, requested integrations will be required to complete a Privacy Impact Questionaire. Units requesting 3rd party integrations will be required to complete this step on their own and assume all risk for its use.

  • Accessibility: All requested integrations will need to have an accessibility review completed by submitting a ticket to UIUC-TechServices-Accessibility Review. Approved requests will have no identified "showstoppers." Units requesting 3rd party integrations will be required to complete this step on their own and assume all risk for its use.

  • NewSoft: Integration requests may need to go through an expedited version of the Tech Services NewSoft process to ensure all internal stakeholders are aware.
