HOW-TO: Printing to the ChBE Copiers from your computer

Before You Start (Checklist):
- Network: Ensure you are connected to the campus network (IllinoisNet Wireless or a wired connection). If you are off-campus, you must be connected to the VPN.
- Printer Name: Consult the "Printer Reference List" below to find the Queue Name for the printer you wish to install.
- Your Login: You will need your NetID and password.
NOTE: The CHBE Kyocera copiers (as both copiers and printers) are meant for CHBE faculty and staff use only. TA’s & CA’s are notified each semester and given access to specific printers (A114 CLSL, A131 CLSL, and 271 RAL) to print for their assigned course. ChBE Undergrad and graduate students have alternative ways to print in the CHBE computer labs. All CHBE students are allotted 300 pages per semester at no cost to them.

Use the Queue Name listed below when the instructions ask for the printer name.
Note: Queue names are case-sensitive on Mac.

Windows Installation
- Hold down the <Windows key> and <R>. This opens a small "Run" box.
- In the box, type (or copy and paste):
\\scs-print.ad.uillinois.eduand press <Enter> (or click OK).- If you do not log into the computer with your NetID and password, a box will pop up asking for you to enter your credentials.
- User name: Type
UOFI\followed by your NetID (Example:UOFI\netid). - Password: Type your NetID password.

- Be sure to click the box for Remember my credentials then click OK
- If you do not log into the computer with your NetID and password, a box will pop up asking for you to enter your credentials.
- A window will pop up showing a long list of printers. Scroll down until you find your specific printer (e.g.,
ChBE-RAL204-Kyocera).
- Right-click the printer icon, then select Connect.
- The computer will automatically download the driver from the print server. Once finished, you are ready to print!
MacOS Installation (Read Carefully)
- Download Driver: Go to the Kyocera website, download the Mac driver for your model (found in the table above), and install the .pkg file.
- Open System Settings > Printers & Scanners.
- Click the Add Printer, Scanner, or Fax... button.
- The Hidden Menu: You must add the "Advanced" gear icon.
- Move your mouse to the gray toolbar area (next to the 'Default' icon).
- Hold Control + Click (Right-click) on the gray area.
- Select Customize Toolbar...
- Drag the Advanced (Gear icon) into the toolbar. Click Done.
- Click the new Advanced (Gear) icon and wait for it to load. Fill in these settings:
- Type: Windows printer via spoolss
- Device: Another Device
- URL:
smb://scs-print.ad.uillinois.edu/<Queue_Name>
CRITICAL: This is case-sensitive. You must match the capitals exactly as shown in the table (e.g.,ChBE-RAL204-Kyocera). - Name: Enter a friendly name (e.g., "ChBE Copy Room").
- Use: Click the dropdown and choose Select Software...
- In the search bar, type "generic".
- DRIVER SELECTION: Do NOT select the specific model number. Select exactly:
Kyocera generic color A4 PCL
- Click Add.
- First Print Job: When you print for the first time, you will be prompted for credentials:
- Name:
UOFI\yourNetID - Password: Your NetID password.
- Name:
Linux (Advanced Printer Tool)
Note: For best results on Linux, we recommend using the "Print Settings" (system-config-printer) tool rather than the standard settings menu.
- Open your application menu and search for Print Settings.
(Alternatively, open a terminal and runsystem-config-printer).
- Click the Add button (or the green + plus sign).
- In the device list, select Network Printer, then select Windows Printer via SAMBA.
- In the "SMB Printer" field, enter the path:
scs-print.ad.uillinois.edu/<Queue_Name>Example:scs-print.ad.uillinois.edu/ChBE-RAL204-Kyocera
- Authentication:
- Select Set authentication details now.
- Username:
UOFI\yourNetID - Password: Your NetID password.
- Click Forward.
- Choose Driver:
- Select Kyocera from the manufacturer list.
- Find and select the specific model code found in the table above (e.g., TaskAlfa 4054ci).
- Click Apply.
