GenAI, Illinois Chat Canvas Course Setup & Known Bugs
This article contains nformation on how to set up Canvas courses to be ingested into Illinois Chat along with other common bugs.
How to set up a Canvas Course
- Go to canvas.illinois.edu and open your course.
- In the left-hand navigation, click People.
- Click + People in the upper right.
- Select Email Address as the method, then enter uiuc.chat@ad.uillinois.edu.
- Set the role to Student.
- Click Next, then Add Users to confirm.
- Once the bot has been added, follow the instructions on the Import Canvas Content modal in Illinois Chat.
Note: The course must be published to be ingested in Illinois Chat.
Other Known Bugs
- You cannot use both your UIUC credentials and NCSA credentials. Please log in using the same account you initially used.
- Page number on pdf citation doesn't point to pdf.
- Folders don't filter by project.
- Aside from the websites themselves, the only file types the web crawler processes are pdfs.
- Filtering by document group does not work.
- Coursera and MIT course sites are not currently supported.
- Access to tool calling is not currently available.
- Images can be uploaded, but processing is limited to images with text in them.
