VPN, CISCO Secure Client, Installation Instructions for Apple iOS (iPhones and iPads)
Follow the instructions below to install and setup the Cisco Secure Client on your iPhone or iPad.
Quick Start
- Download the Cisco Secure Client from the Apple App Store.
- Open the AnyConnect app.
- Add a new connection to the "Server Address" go.vpn.illinois.edu.
- When prompted, allow the AnyConnect app to add VPN configurations.
- Set the AnyConnect VPN toggle button to the "on" (rightward) position.
- Sign In with your full email address (NetID@illinois.edu) and password.
Downloading and Configuring the VPN
- On your iPhone or iPad, go the App Store and download the "Cisco Secure Client". The app should be free to download.

- Once the app has been downloaded, it will show up on your home screen under the name "AnyConnect". Open the app to configure the VPN for university use.

- Click on the panel labeled "Connections" to add a connection to the campus VPN.

- Click on the panel labeled "Add VPN Connection..."

- In the "Server Address" text box, type go.vpn.illinois.edu and click "Save".

- When prompted to allow the app to add VPN configurations, click "Allow". After you click "Allow", you may be prompted to enter your passcode.

- Click on the "back" chevron icon (❮) in the upper left corner.

Connecting to the VPN
- To connect to the VPN, set the AnyConnect VPN toggle button to the "on" (rightward) position.

- A web browser window should pop up to guide you through the login process. Make sure you Sign In with your full email address (NetID@illinois.edu).

- After you complete the authentication process, if you are not automatically returned to the AnyConnect app, click on the "Back to AnyConnect" icon ("◀ AnyConnect") in the upper left corner.

- At this point, you should be connected to the campus VPN! The AnyConnect VPN toggle button should be in the "on" (rightward) position and the "Details" section should say "Connected".

Disconnecting from the VPN
To disconnect from the VPN, set the AnyConnect VPN toggle button to the "off" (leftward) position. After that is done, the "Details" section should say "Disconnected".
