Endpoint Services, MECM, How should I request that the service add specific software?
Overview
How can I get the MECM service to offer specific software?Systems
Microsoft Endpoint Configuration Manager (MECM)
Intended Audience
University of Illinois IT Pros leveraging MECM, hosted by Technology Services' Endpoint Services team
General Information
Users should contact their IT Pros with the applications they want to see added to the Software Center.
IT Pros utilizing MECM can check the 'Applications\MANAGED APPLICATIONS folder' folder in the MECM console for all EPS-managed applications available for use. The full list of all Managed Applications is also available at Endpoint Services, MECM, What software is provided?
If you would like to request a new application be packaged in MECM, please submit a support request at https://go.illinois.edu/MECMHelp
To be eligible for packaging by EPS as a Managed Application, applications must fit into one of two categories:
- A paid product licensed campus-wide via Webstore
- OR - - A free application that is broadly applicable to campus
Please note: Software titles containing terms or conditions for using the software will likely need to have the terms approved by the University of Illinois Purchasing and Contract Management Office before being added to the MECM service. This process can take over a month to complete. This delay does not apply to Webstore apps as these are approved during their licensing process.
Some examples of apps that would not be appropriate for Managed Applications include:
- apps licensed directly by a college or unit
- apps that require a per-user purchase (excluding apps purchased through Webstore)
- apps that are freely available but highly specialized with narrow applicability
Just because an app can't be managed by EPS directly doesn't mean they can't be deployed via MECM! Units are able to package and deploy their own custom applications - see Endpoint Services, MECM, Creating an MECM application. If you have any questions about application packaging, please reach out to Endpoint Services at https://go.illinois.edu/MECMHelp
