Overview

CrashPlan is designed to silently and automatically back up the files you store on your computer, whether at work or at home, unattended. With CrashPlan, you can rest assured that no matter what happens to your computer, the photos, movies, music, emails, and documents that mean the most to you are safely backed up and can be restored at any time. Applicability

CrashPlan is available to UIUC faculty and staff for use on up to 5 devices, anywhere in the world.  Backup schedules can be altered or paused, but will otherwise run continuously. CrashPlan is not available for servers.  This service is for faculty and staff members only, and you must have a UIUC NetID and an AD password. Each faculty or staff member may register up to five computers.

CrashPlan is only used to back up your files and documents, not scratch directories, and not operating systems or software files that you can get back by re-installing. The default configuration will back up user profile folders.

User Management

License requests are processed within 1 business day.
When a user purchases a license, they can download, install, and configure the software client. Multiple licenses can be purchased on behalf of departmental users. When purchasing license(s), the purchaser is asked to complete a form that provides service configuration information for users. This includes the option for users to be placed in a department/college/organization group managed by a local IT Pro identified as a CrashPlan administrator. This admin will be able to assist with backup, restore, or configuration questions.
Questions about creating or using a dept/college/org, assigning or moving users, or assigning local IT Pros as CrashPlan administrators may be sent to webstore@illinois.edu. Please include 'CRASHPLAN' in the subject.

Requirements

The system specifications listed below are the minimum requirements for successfully installing the CrashPlan app.

Large Backup File Selections

If you are backing up more than 1 TB or 1 million files, please review additional technical information.
