ChatGPT EDU licensing has two components:
- The base user license.
- An optional credit packages for extra functionality.
The base user license includes:
- Unlimited access to the GPT 5.5 instant model (note: GPT versions may change rapidly based on ChatGPT's new policies and GPT role outs).
- 3 image generations per rolling 24-hour period.
- 5 Deep Research queries per rolling 24-hour period.
"The 24-hour period begins at the time of first use. For example, if a user generates an image at 10:00 AM, they can generate 2 additional images until 10:00 AM the following day. Usage beyond these limits will consume credits according to the rates listed." (help.openai.com, 8-June-2026)
For additional functionality like thinking models, or use of Codex, a credit subscription must be purchased.
