Update: Given the AI detection tool's lack of consistency in its results, the campus deactivated this feature on January 12th. 

Turnitin, the plagiarism-detection tool available in Canvas, added an artificial intelligence, or AI, detection feature. This feature is integrated directly into Turnitin assignments, and it does not require any activation by an instructor when setting up a new assignment. 

The AI-detection feature is included in the Similarity Report generated by Turnitin, and it provides instructors with an idea of what, if any, percentage of written content may have been created by an AI tool.
