Adobe, Creative Cloud, Changing to Self-Service

Campus-managed Adobe Creative Cloud apps keep themselves updated via Software Center (Windows) and Managed Software Center (Mac). However, some areas of work require newer versions than campus releases. In those cases, you may follow the steps in this tutorial to remove the managed versions and install Adobe's Self-Service Creative Cloud apps. If you would like assistance, please contact the IT Partners @ Gies Help Desk - helpdesk@business.illinois.edu or 217-244-0812.
Select your operating system.

Windows

Close all Adobe apps you have open.

Go to the laptop's Control Panel > Programs and Features and uninstall all of the Adobe installations. These include "Adobe Acrobat" and "Adobe Creative Cloud," but there might also be a listing for "Adobe Genuine Service" or something similarly named. You'll have to uninstall them, one at a time; each will take about a minute.

Open "Control Panel"

Inside of Control Panel, select "Programs and Features"

Uninstall all Adobe Installations that appear

If you get an error that something can't uninstall because you have to wait for another program to finish but the previous deletion appears done, restart the computer and go back to Programs and Features to finish deleting the Adobe apps.

After all the Adobe apps are uninstalled, restart the computer (if you had to restart earlier, please do so again).

After logging back on, open your browser of choice and navigate to adobe.com

At the top right select "Sign in"

Enter your Illinois email address and select "Continue"

This will redirect to the Illinois login

Select or re-enter your Illinois e-mail address

Next, enter your Illinois password and complete your preferred 2FA method

On adobe.com select the blue circle/profile picture at the top-right

Select "Manage Account"

Near the bottom/middle of the page, select "View all apps and services"

On the resulting "Included in your plan" page, select the "Access your apps and services" button at the top-right

Scroll down to the middle of the resulting window and select "Download" on the "Creative Cloud" listing

Run the downloaded file located in your "Downloads" folder

Double-click on this file to begin the self-service version of Creative Cloud

This will install a fresh copy of a self-service version of Creative Cloud

Select "Continue" to begin the installation

Complete or skip the questionnaire when prompted

Allow Adobe Creative Cloud to complete its installation to 100%

Once you've re-installed Creative Cloud, you can sign out of adobe.com in your browser.

Use the new Creative Cloud Desktop's "Install" options, listed under each app you want to install. Please only install the apps you plan to use.

Note: Adobe sometimes alters where software listings are located on their site's pages. You may have to use your best judgment if something has moved.

In the menu bar select Go > Applications and uninstall all Adobe installations

These include "Adobe Acrobat DC" and "Adobe Creative Cloud," but there might also be a listing for "Adobe Genuine Service" or something similarly named
