Before you start

Please proceed with the steps below if you have previously signed in to the computer and have recently lost its connection to IllinoisNet Wi-Fi, possibly due to a Windows upgrade. If this is the first time you are signing in to a college issued Windows computer, see Cisco VPN, Start Before Logon, How to connect before Windows login.

Connect to IllinoisNet_Guest Wi-Fi

Sign in to the Windows computer with your NetID credentials.

On the Windows Taskbar in the bottom-right corner of the screen, select the network icon, which appears as a globe when the computer is offline. 

Select the right arrow next to the Wi-Fi symbol. If it says "Wi-Fi is off," toggle on the Wi-Fi switch in the menu.

Scroll down the list of available Wi-Fi networks and select "IllinoisNet_Guest." Then, select "Connect." 

Note: This is a public network and is intended for temporary internet use. You are connecting to it for the moment to prepare for the next section.

You will be redirected to a Technology Services website titled "Wi-Fi at Illinois." If not, open a web browser and attempt to visit a common website like "www.google.com"

Select "Student/Faculty/Staff Wi-Fi Access."

Sign in with your NetID credentials.

You have now connected to IllinoisNet_Guest Wi-Fi and have internet access. Select "Faculty, Staff, Students: Setup IllinoisNet Here" or follow the next section to connect to IllinoisNet Wi-Fi.

Connect to IllinoisNet Wi-Fi

You should have internet access before starting the steps below. If not, follow the previous section to connect to IllinoisNet_Guest Wi-Fi.

Open a web browser and visit the IllinoisNet Setup Page and select the "JoinNow" button.

A wireless certificate installer will be downloaded. Open it from the browser's download menu or your Downloads folder.

Please wait for a few moments until it opens. If you see the warning, "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device?" Select "Yes."

In the wireless certificate installer, select "Next."

You will be redirected to a Single Sign-On website. Please use your Illinois email credentials to sign in.

You will be redirected to the wireless certificate installer. Please wait a few moments until it says "Configuration succeeded."

You will be prompted with the Wi-Fi menu. Select "IllinoisNet" and select "Connect."

Return to the wireless certificate installer and select "Next."

You have now connected to IllinoisNet Wi-Fi! Select "Done" or close the wireless certificate installer window.
